Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy is the only child of Gerry and Rosie McIlroy. He grew up in Holywood, Northern Ireland, where his parents worked multiple jobs to support his early golf development.

McIlroy married Erica Stoll in 2017. Their daughter, Poppy Kennedy, was born in 2020. The couple briefly began divorce proceedings in 2024 but withdrew the case and reconciled.

Gerry was the first to discover his son’s talent when the latter was just 2 years old. And he spent lots of cash and time to raise a champion from his talented son.

Gerry comes from Belfast, the part of Northern Ireland, which is known by its severe climate. He married the great woman Rosie McIlroy in 1988 and a year later they welcomed their only child – a son Rory. Gerry was an amateur golf player, and he took his son to the golf club when Rory was in the kindergarten age. 

When McIlroy Jr. was coached as a golfer at the club and then participated in the golf tournaments, his father had to work extra hours at the bar (he was a bartender) to pay the fee for that. He used to work 100 per week to fund his son’s hobby. But finally, all that paid off – their famous son bought Gerry and his wife Rosie a huge mansion.

Rosie Mcllroy, nee Rosaleen McDonald, is Rory’s mother and his most beloved person in the world. She served at the factory and had always been ready to work even harder to fund her son’s hobby, which later turned into his profession – golf. “I would never repay to my Mum and Dad for everything they did for me”, he told.

Rory Daniel McIlroy is a Northern Irish professional golfer born on May 4, 1989. A former world number one, he won the U.S. Open, PGA Championship and Open Championship early in his career.

In April 2025, McIlroy won the Masters in a playoff and became the sixth male golfer to complete the career Grand Slam. He has represented Europe in multiple Ryder Cups. McIlroy has been married to Erica Stoll since 2017, and they have one daughter, Poppy. A 2024 divorce filing was withdrawn after the couple reconciled.
