Doug’s father is John Douglas Malone. He spent the major part of his life in Longview, WA. He studied at Mark Morris High School and was the Track and Field local celebrity there. John and Doug’s mother separated when he was a little boy.

Christie was a middle school pupil when he moved to his father’s place in Longview, WA. He attended the same school as his dad and became a basketball star there.

Till now Doug shares a close bond with his father. He congratulates him on each holiday and devotes himself to John’s sweet posts on social media.

John grew up in Longview, WA. He is the son of Mr. Malone and his wife Lucille. John also had a brother Jerry, who passed away in 2010 at the age of 62. His mother, Lucille Malone, was a family-oriented person. She was very close with Doug, and the basketball star still keeps her in his heart (according to his Instagram posts). It’s not known about the history of her relationships with Doug’s grandfather Mr. Malone. But in 1977 she re-married Envie Davis. Doug’s grandmother worked as a cabinet maker. Norma Dale Christie spent her childhood years in Jamestown, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Dale Christie and Crystal Elmore. Norma had 2 brothers, Dale Jr. and David (who passed away), and 3 sisters, Connie, Melody, and Susan.

Doug’s mother resided in Washington, having changed several cities there. Her last place to live was in Vancouver, WA. She earned her living as a retail clerk.

Mrs. Christie passed away in 2014. The reason for her death was a long illness. She is still remembered not just by her son, but also by her daughter-in-law Jackie and 3 grandchildren.

Doug Christie is an American professional basketball coach and former NBA shooting guard. He played 15 NBA seasons and became especially known for his defense with the Sacramento Kings, earning four NBA All-Defensive selections.

Christie joined the Kings coaching staff in 2021, became interim head coach in December 2024 and was named the permanent head coach in May 2025. He completed his first full season in charge in 2025-26.

Doug and Jackie Christie married on July 8, 1996. They have two children together, Chantel and Douglas Jr.; Doug is also stepfather to Jackie’s daughter Ta’Kari Lee.
