Olu Evans (husband)

Olu Evans is a corporate attorney. He has a degree from Emory University and was involved in the New York Bar. He also owns a dancewear company called Muse Dancewear LL. The couple met in 2004 and were presented to each other by Taye Diggs, Olu’s cousin. They became engaged back in 2015 and married in 2016 at the Montage Hotel in Laguna Beach.

Sylvia DelaCerna (mother)
Sylvia is an Italian and African American descendant who was adopted. Misty’s mother used to work as a sales employee despite having medical assistance education. She had 4 marriages and 6 children. Misty’s father was her second husband with whom she had 4 kids. She left him when Misty was 2 years old. Later on, Sylvia married a sales executive and a radiologist. None of her marriages lasted and the family was trapped in financial troubles. Sylvia wanted her daughter to quit attending ballet classes when Misty already had her achievements. Mother’s request was followed by the offer from Mysty’s ballet teacher, Cynthia Bradley, who was already taking care of the girl’s transportation. The offer was about Misty living with Bradley’s family and signing a life-long management contract to which Sylvia agreed.
The girl spent most of her time with Bradleys and was able to get all the attention she lacked from her mother. However, Misty refused the offer from the San Francisco Ballet School to move in with her mother again. This resulted in their conflict and the attempt of Sylvia to drop her daughter’s contact with Bradley. Misty filed a form for emancipation and hid during the days it was delivered to her mother. The escalation of the conflict was illuminated in the press. Sylvia tried to keep Bradleys away legally. Finally, she agreed to support the girl’s engagement in ballet but without her former teacher involved.
Doug Copeland Sr. (father)
Doug has German and African American ancestry. He and his daughter were apart for twenty years when they finally met in 2004. The two did get along sharing their life stories and impressions from the meeting. Doug recalled going through a difficult period of time after his split with Misty’s mother. At the moment, Doug keeps track of his daughter’s performances.

Douglas Copeland Jr. (brother)
Douglas shares both parents with Misty. He had a relationship with their father long before Misty and was the one to organize their meeting.
Erica Copeland (older sister)
She is Misty’s older sister. Erica was the one to encourage her to join the Dana Middle School drill team she was attending herself. She works as destructive physical analysis technician at Seal Laboratories in San Pedro, California. She has been in relations with Jeff Busian since 1996 and has a daughter Mariah.
Christopher Copeland (older brother)

Cameron is the daughter of Sylvia and Harold Brown, a sales executive and the third husband of Misty’s mother. She is a mother of 2 kids and loves to run.
Cameron DelaCerna (half-brother)
Cameron is the youngest Copeland’s sibling and is the son of Sylvia’s fourth husband Robert DelaCerna who has mixed Asian ethnicity.
Bio
Misty Copeland is the world-famous American ballet dancer associated with American Ballet Theatre (ABT). She began attending ballet classes at the age of 13 which is generally considered a late start. However, Copeland appeared to have an innate talent which was noticed by her drill team coach, Elizabeth Cantine, and a ballet teacher Cynthia Bradley. After a battle between Bradley and Misty’s mother, she had to attend high school devoting less time to ballet. Though, this did not stop Copeland on her way to ABT’s Studio Company. In 2000 she finally became its member and its soloist in 2007. As Misty’s fame rose she tried herself in the role of a public speaker and writer.
