Parents
Heidi Russo (biological mother)
- Date of birth: 1969
Being a broke teenager back in 1987, Heidi Russo abandoned six-week Colin for not to face life as a single mother. The 19-year-girl decided to place her son for adoption with a family she was sure would care better for him. Afterwards, in one of her interviews, Russo called it the toughest decision made in her life, which proved to be the best option for her son, who she was not capable of bringing up properly.
Having given up Colin to the Kaepernicks, Heidi moved on with her own life, earned a degree at Wisconsin University and obtained the position of a nurse at Good Samaritan Medical Center. Then, she was a successful healthcare practitioner in Milwaukee – the place where the future football star was born.
The woman tried to contact her famous son, but Colin consistently stayed away from her. Kaepernick was and still is deeply convinced reuniting with Russo may seem to be a betrayal of his foster parents. The man also claims he has already got his real family and does not need anyone else in it.
Nowadays, Russo is a cardiac nurse based in Denver together with her family. Furthermore, she is a co-founder of an advocacy group Linked Thru Love aimed at coping with problems women face placing their kids for adoption. Another organization launched by Russo is called Three Strands and supports birth mothers in their willingness to find their children.
Though ceased to keep in touch with Colin and his new family a long time ago, Russo has been following her son’s development via the net all this while. The nurse practitioner supported Kaepernick in his open protests, maintaining, however, he might have done it in a more rational manner in order not to bring disrespect to himself and his whole family.
After all this time, Heidi still feels tightly bound by blood with Colin. She has not stopped supporting the dismissed football at a distance in times of pressure these days.
She is now married to Patrick Biebersmith and has 3 sons with him.
Name Unknown (biological father)
Kaepernick’s biological father is African-American, has got ancestors of Ghanaian, Nigerian and Ivorian origin. He separated from Heidi Russo before Colin’s birth, leaving nothing behind himself.
Rick Kaepernick (adoptive father)
It is not, actually, easy to be the head of the white family adopting a black child. However, back in 1987, Rick Kaepernick was not even thinking of possible unpleasant situations to emerge. Colin’s father’s moral courage is immeasurable and truly invaluable.
Having taught his son to stand, but not on his knees, one day, Rick found his descendant kneeling. The man expressed sincere support for the son’s act, mentioning, he has always been so persistent and hard to reassure. Rick showed his acceptance of Colin’s behavior, despite trouble the football star exposed the entire family to.
Teresa Kaepernick (adoptive mother)
- Date of birth: August 1
Every son certainly deserves a mother like Teresa Kaepernick. Having lost two children and that is why being eager to change the destiny of an abandoned baby, the woman insisted on adopting Colin. Quitting her job, the dedicated mother went on to spend her life sacrificing for the family.
Teresa managed to create a family atmosphere comfortable enough to prevent Colin from feeling different. She enhanced good relations between her biological children and the adopted one.
The woman got Colin involved in sports and was supporting him while he was building the career of the top quarterback in the country. She has always been cheering Colin, sharing him with the ever-present eyes of the public and pressing him when there is a challenge to overcome. Now, Teresa has still been there for “her little Colin” despite anything.
Teresa admitted her son has committed career suicide, being, unfortunately, unable to influence the situation in any way. Meanwhile, she kept standing by Colin’s side.

Bio
Known as an American football quarterback, Colin Kaepernick is also a civil rights activist, who fights for equality in society and roughly protests against racial injustice. Back in 2016, he co-founded the Know Your Rights Camp for the sake of disadvantaged youths to know more about self-empowerment, the US history and their legal rights. The sports star regularly donates to organizations which work in oppressed communities and takes part in social advertising campaigns devoted to resistance to slavery.
Colin’s starting career performance was highlighted in 2008 and 2010, when he was titled as a Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year. In addition, the quarterback set two NFL records for most rushing yards.
Having started his career in professional sport in 2011, Kaepernick was playing for San Francisco 49ers for seven successful years. He led the team to their first Super Bowl appearance since the mid-90s, and helped them reach the NFL Championship Game.
Unfortunately, the player turned out to be too convinced in his own political views to silently witness systematic oppression and police brutality taking place in the USA. Kaepernick’s protests during the national anthem throughout the entire regular season in 2016 made him, one of the leading players, still kept out of the league. The issue made him known as the first prominent professional athlete who has taken the unpopular stand.
